My next CD project is inspired by the great Leonardo da Vinci, and the working title is "Master of the Renaissance".
I've previewed some of the tunes below...
The first one is a composition called, Solo for Wheel Driven Drums. I wrote a tone row for piano and added tympani and a drum solo. Da Vinci was interested in musical instruments, as well as, architecture, flying machines, the human body, birds, and the rest of nature! He was very interested in drums. He has drawings of various snare drums and kettledrums, equipped with a toothed wheel to make the roll easy and regular and a screw to stretch the skin systematically on the drum.

My next tune is called The Tent of Linen. It's based on da Vinci's parachute drawing. Leonardo stated, "If a man has a tent of linen without any apertures, 12 ells across, and 12 ells in depth, he can throw himself down from any great height without injury." I found out that an ell is a linear measurement equal to 45 inches. So, I multiplied 45 inches times 12 and came up with 540. I then dropped the zero, put the 4 under the 5 and came up with the time signature of 5/4. Brazilian tune, in fact, a samba in 5/4.(top)
Villagio del Maestro is a bossa nova dedicated to the town of Anchiano, near Vinci, Tuscany, where da Vinci was born.
The Aerial Screw is a funk tune that is written about one of the wonderful flying machines that da Vinci's drew (even though they never really flew). The aerial screw, which is what he called the flying machine, was the design of the first helicopter.(top)
La Pranza Finalmente is about da Vinci's painting, "The Last Supper" and is a hybrid meringue.
These are just some of the tunes on, "Master of the Renaissance"... After finishing that, the writing juices were still flowing, so I started some material for a third CD project. Its working title is "The U.F.O. Phenomenon". It's based one of the most fascinating and, I feel, revealing subjects in the Universe; and could possibly hold the answer to the many questions that we have had about the human race. Such as: "Are we alone?", "Who are we?", "What are we?", "What is our future?"(top)
I've only written a few tunes so far. I'll give you names and descriptions of these tunes in upcoming future project notes.
Well, there you are! Thanks for taking the time to read this. Please visit often, as I'm planning on keeping you posted on my new activities, events, and future projects.(top)
Thanks again!
